Chapter 2 examines the involvement of religious groups (particularly Christian development agencies) in establishing many of the earliest Introduction 21 North–South links that developed into Fair Trade ventures. In particular, this chapter investigates the work of three Christian development agencies that played an important role in establishing the Fairtrade Foundation: Christian Aid, CAFOD and Tearfund.
